The NBA basketball player was fined for using an anti-gay slur toward a referee during a game. Gay rights organizations were happy with the harsh punishment from the NBA commissioner.
James Harrison Fine
So, apparently, James Harrison just isn't getting the message. As the NFL attempts to crack down on vicious hits to the head during the 2010 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker has already been fined on three separate occasions this year for a total of $95,000. Harrison was fine $50,000 for a controversial hit on Cleveland Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi on Oct. 19, plus an additional $25,000 because the NFL deemed him a repeat offender based on a tackle on Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young earlier in the season. Barely two weeks later, and Harrison was issued a $20,000 punishment for a late hit on New Orleans Saints pivot Drew Brees. Mike Tyson Fine
During the “Sound and the Fury” fight in 1997, Tyson famously bit off part of the ear of his opponent. Check out his ear. He was hit with a monstrous fine and had his boxing license taken away.
Bill Belichick Fine
Super Bowl XLII aside, the 2007 NFL season was nothing short of spectacular for the New England Patriots. Thanks to the excellent offensive exploits of Tom Brady and Randy Moss, the Pats cruised to a perfect regular season record, starting with a dominating 38-14 win over their AFC East rivals, the New York Jets, in Week 1. But, as it turned out, the Pats were caught taping the Jets' defensive signals during the win, a clear violation of league rules. For the Spygate incident, the team had to forfeit its first-round draft pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Patriots were fined $250,000, and head coach Bill Belichick was also charged $500,000.

This former basketball bad boy was given the largest fine for a player in NBA history at that time in 1997 for insulting a Utah-based religion.

In 2009, the NASCAR crew chief was suspended and hit with the biggest fine in the sport's history for having an oversized engine during a race at a popular speedway.
Ray Kroc Fine
The late MLB baseball team owner and businessman, best known for a major fast-food chain, was fined a hefty amount in 1979 for publicly stating he would try to pursue certain free agents.
Vancouver Canucks Fine
In 2004, Canadian hockey player Todd Bertuzzi was suspended from the NHL for a punching Steve Moore in the back of the head, which fractured his neck and ended his career. The Canucks were slammed with a huge fine.
McLaren Formula 1 Fine
The McLaren-Mercedes Team were disqualified from the Formula 1 2007 season and fined the largest amount tin FIA history.
